Our Mission

The mission and role of societies is to set standards of excellence in STEMM fields, requiring high quality research, teaching and practice and high standards of professional and ethical conduct.   That is only possible in a community that includes all talent and is actively intolerant of sexual and intersecting bases of harassment.

AAU adopts principles on preventing sexual harassment in academia.

October 26, 2021 

On October 26, AAU announced that during their fall meeting, AAU presidents and chancellors adopted a “groundbreaking” set of principles to help prevent sexual and gender harassment in academia. According to AAU President Barbara R. Snyder, the principles, “seek to prevent the abuse from happening in the first place through policies focused on educating the campus community and ensuring that sexual harassers don’t get passed from one institution to the next.” The principles are nonbinding and are designed to be adapted by each institution’s unique cultural and legal context.
